English as a Foreign Language (EFL)

About the Course

The main aim of the programme is to prepare those whose first language is not English and have a good general knowledge of English for examination leading to single certification in English as a foreign language (EFL) [also known as English as a second language (ESL)/English as an additional language (EAL)]. Students will be given the opportunity to develop their general communication skills and also improve their reading and writing skills. An objective of the programme is that students will achieve proficiency in English to enable them to work and communicate effectively in an English-speaking environment. Audio-visual material will be used in class and regular practical sessions will be held in the language laboratories where students will have access to further online resources.

Entry Level

This course is designed for those with a basic knowledge of written and spoken English who wish to improve their language skills and gain a formal qualification.

Those wishing to apply for this programme are required to sit the ITT Dublin English Access Test. You can download the form for the Access English Test here . Please contact the Department of Lifelong Learning for further information.
